All about PSB files

When PSD becomes too restrictive, PSB steps in. Joking aside, PSD files support a maximum of 2 GB and 30,000 x 30,000 pixels. PSB files have a (currently) rather theoretical limit of 4 exabytes and 300,000 x 300,000 pixels. Apart from that, both Photoshop formats are identical and support features such as layers, masks and smart objects.

PSB is particularly useful for large-format prints (posters, billboards), high-resolution panoramas and detailed maps. Photoshop automatically prompts you to save as PSB as soon as one of the limits is exceeded.
