All about PSD files
The professional image editing software Photoshop stores files in the format PSD, Photoshop Document. These files allow the saving of all work steps and levels and thus provide a lossless access to the entire work on the document. As a matter of principle, it should be stored as PSD while working, and in the last step the layers should be compressed into a TIFF or jpg image for better interchange and compatibility. Due to the structure in the different image, mask and processing levels, a complex PSD file can take on an enormous size. For complex and large files the PSD file format will be replaced by PSB files (Photoshop Big). In addition to Adobe Photoshop, other programs are able to open or display PSD files. These include the free image editor GIMP, or the image editor Paint Shop Pro and the viewer Irfan View.
