My name is Sören Ramspeck and I have been running file-converter-online.com since 2013. What started as a pure “hobby project” has now, after more than 12 years, turned into an internationally recognized project in more than 17 languages. In these 12 years, more than 125,000,000 files have been converted, 10,000 comments have been posted, and many more file formats have been added.

Our infrastructure
We rely entirely on our own hardware at the Hetzner data center in Falkenstein (Germany). Various server and hardware generations have converted more than 127,000,000 files, and with 99.99% uptime, we also set standards in terms of availability with our own hardware.

Our mission:
Since 2013, I have been pursuing a simple goal: to make converters available to everyone free of charge so that files can be converted quickly, securely, and as cost-effectively as possible. What was initially very practical for me personally quickly grew into one of the most widely used platforms in the entire German-speaking world and later far beyond.

Our story:
file-converter-online.com started in 2013 when I needed to combine various documents into a single PDF document. I had a cover letter as a .DOC file, a scan as a JPG file, and a few other documents as PDF files. Since I couldn’t find a reliable tool, I decided to build my own: file-converter-online.com. I kept receiving requests for other file formats, so new converters were soon added. Between 2013 and 2018, 16 additional languages were added, starting with Spanish, English, and French, and later Czech, Polish, and many more.
A milestone was the “video reduction” feature, which was added in 2018. This required significantly more computing power than before, so at the end of 2018, we moved from dedicated servers to our own racks at Hetzner. Just in time, because as it turned out, converter-pdf.com was in high demand internationally during the coronavirus lockdown and the corresponding use of home offices. Not everyone always had access to all their usual programs, and there was a lot of converting to be done.

– NO hidden costs or subscriptions
