Every year, Online-Umwandeln.de processes millions of files. In 2025, we once again successfully reduced, converted, and edited more than 7,000,000 files. The following evaluation shows trends and statistics on the results of our conversions.

Statistics on pdf reduction:

In 2025, PDF reduction was once again one of the most popular tasks at Online-Umwandeln.de. More than 2,000,000 individual PDF files were reduced in size, resulting in the following statistics for the selected resolutions:

Resolution / DPI Percentage in 2025 Average reduction compared to input file
75 dpi 13.1% 80%
150 dpi 69.5% 55%
300 dpi 15.9% 22%
600 dpi 1.4% 7%

The most popular setting by far, 150 dpi—a good compromise between quality and file size—resulted in an average 55% smaller PDF file in 2025. As expected, the compression rate is significantly lower at higher resolutions, as the input resolution is often already similarly high. In 2025, 13.1% of all PDF compressions were performed with 75 dpi as the target format. Here, we achieved 80% compression.

Video reduction statistics:

In 2025, more than 4,000,000 individual videos were reduced in size. On average, we were able to reduce the file size by 49%. This corresponds to almost halving the file size.

The following table shows the most important video formats in 2025 and the change from 2024:

Format 2024 2025 Change
MP4 62.3% 66.9% +4.63 PP
MOV 18.4% 14.5% -3.84 PP
AVI 5.0% 5.5% +0.47 PP
MKV 4.1% 4.8% +0.61 PP
WebM 2.6% 2.0% -0.63 PP
MTS 2.4% 1.4% -1.01 PP
WMV 1.5% 1.4% -0.05 PP
H264 1.2% 1.2% -0.03 PP
FLV 0.6% 0.5% -0.12 PP

What do these figures show?

MP4 continues to grow. As in previous years, mp4 is the most commonly used format, now accounting for almost 67% of our video reductions. We continue to see consolidation in the chaos of video formats towards MP4 as a flexible container format.

MOV suffers the biggest loss: Apple’s mov format has fallen by almost 4 percentage points from 18.4% to just 14.5% of our conversions. One reason for this is that many Apple devices (iPhone, iOS) can already export directly to MP4 natively.

AVI and mkv remain stable. avi and MKV remain in demand as container formats and are even growing slightly.
